Does Minoxidil Work?

Hair Loss Prevention Vitamins

You may be at a stage in life where more and more hair seems to be ending up on your pillow or around the shower drain instead of on your head. If this is the case, odds are, right about now you’ll be searching for a hair loss solution. After a bit of research, you will probably come across Minoxidil (also known as Rogaine). But the question most people are eager to know: does Minoxidil actually work?

Sold as a liquid or a foam, Minoxidil is available in two strengths: 2% and 5%. It is the only FDA approved product that is available over the counter and suitable for both men and women. Minoxidil is a vasodilator, meaning it’s designed to dilate blood vessels and improve the flow of blood to certain areas of your body.

When applied topically, Minoxidil increases blood flow to the areas of your scalp where the hair grows. By increasing the blood flow, more nutrients and oxygen are able to flow into each individual hair follicle, encouraging healthy hair to grow.

Minoxidil will only work effectively if used consistently. If you fail to apply the treatment daily, the effects of the hair loss solution will wear off and your hair will continue to deteriorate. It is recommended that you use Minoxidil every day for a minimum of 4 months to see any real results.

Clinical studies have indeed shown that Minoxidil can effectively regrow hair in some people. In the large clinical study that followed through to the drug’s approval in 1987, 40% of men had moderate to dense hair growth on the crown of their head. In a one-year observational study, 62% of the 984 men using 5% Minoxidil reported a reduction in hair loss. As for hair regrowth, the drug was rated as “very effective” in 16% of participants, “effective” in 48% and “moderately effective” in 21% of people.

Women were not left out of the equation either! In one double-blind study, 19% of women aged 18 to 45 who used Rogaine for eight months reported moderate hair regrowth, while 40% had minimal growth.

As to how well it works, Minoxidil as a stand-alone treatment has been proven to achieve good results in around 60% of people.

At The Dense Hair Club, we have developed a hair loss product that combines the two best FDA approved hair loss treatments available on the market: Finasteride and Minoxidil. The combination of products in one topical spray has resulted in an effective hair loss solution that works without producing any horrible side effects.

Studies have shown that minoxidil and finasteride can have a collaborative effect in preventing hair loss, making the two hair loss ingredients a popular combination for protecting your hairline and scalp from baldness.
